The UT3 PS3 Mod Browser Works Again

Unreal Tournament 3's in-game Mod Browser on PS3 has been dead since Epic shut the service down around 2013. As of August 2, 2026 it works again. A retail PS3 downloads community mods over the internet, unpacks them and installs them — with no PC, no USB drive and no modified console.

What is the UT3 Mod Browser?

The Mod Browser is a screen built into Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3, at Community → Mod Browser. It shows an "Available For Download" list supplied over the internet, and the console downloads and installs whatever you pick. Epic added it in the version 2.0 update; it is not present on an unpatched 2007 disc.

If your Community menu says "My Content" instead

Then your copy of the game is older than version 2.0. Update 2.0 replaced the old My Content entry with Mod Browser — they are the same slot in the Community menu, not two separate items.

Everything My Content used to do still works. Installed mods are now listed under INSTALLED CONTENT inside the Mod Browser, and USB installs moved to the IMPORT CONTENT button on that same screen. See the install guide for both versions.

Does the PS3 Mod Browser still work in 2026?

Yes. As of August 2, 2026 the UT3 PS3 Mod Browser downloads and installs mods again. The service Epic ran went dark around 2013, and the GameSpy shutdown on May 31, 2014 took the rest of UT3's PS3 online features with it. A community-run master server now answers in its place.

This was verified on retail hardware — an unmodified PS3 on stock firmware, no jailbreak, no custom firmware and no emulator. The console browses the list, downloads the file over HTTPS, unpacks it, installs it, and the mod plays. The largest download confirmed working so far is a 198 MB map pack.

How do you download UT3 mods directly on a PS3?

You need Unreal Tournament 3 updated to version 2.0 or later, and one change to your PS3's DNS settings. Nothing else — no PC, no USB drive, no account anywhere.

  1. Point your PS3 at the community master server. This is the same one-time DNS change that brings back online play — if you have already done it, the Mod Browser is already working. The current values are on the Play Online guide.
  2. Launch Unreal Tournament 3 and go to Community → Mod Browser.
  3. Open the download list. The screen has two sections — INSTALLED CONTENT and AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD. Highlight AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD and press Cross to expand it.
  4. Highlight a mod to read its description across the top of the screen.
  5. Press Cross for DOWNLOAD CONTENT. The PS3 fetches the file, unpacks it and installs it, and it moves up into INSTALLED CONTENT. Larger packs take a while — let it finish.

Buttons on the Mod Browser screen

  • Cross — DOWNLOAD CONTENT, and expand or collapse a section
  • Square — IMPORT CONTENT, to install a USERDATA.JAM from a USB drive
  • Circle — BACK
  • Select — DELETE ALL
If the Mod Browser is missing from the Community menu, your copy of Unreal Tournament 3 predates the version 2.0 update. See the install guide for how to check your version and update — or install mods from a USB drive instead, which works on every version.

Which mods are in the in-game list?

A curated shortlist — not the whole archive. The console's "Available For Download" screen is a single long scroll with no search or filtering, so a few hundred entries would be unusable on a TV. The full archive stays on this site, where you can search and browse it properly.

Currently in the in-game list

This list is generated from the same file the consoles read, so it is always what your PS3 will see.

How do I get the mods that aren't in the list?

Download the mod's USERDATA.JAM file from its page on this site, copy it to a FAT32 USB drive, and import it from the PS3. That route reaches every mod in the archive and works on every version of the game, including copies too old to have the Mod Browser at all.

Epic pointed this same feed at UT3MOD in 2009

When Epic Games shipped the update that added the Mod Browser, the "Available For Download" list it served pointed at UT3MOD's own file host. Players browsing mods inside the game on their PS3 were downloading files from this project, straight from the in-game menu.

That feed died with the rest of UT3's PS3 online services. The list your console reads today is served by UT3MOD again — the same mechanism, the same site, seventeen years later.

A mod downloaded but won't load

This is a known issue we are actively working on. Some mods download and install correctly through the Mod Browser but then fail to load in-game. The download itself is fine — something in how those particular mods were packaged doesn't sit well with the in-game install path.

If you hit this, please tell us: email [email protected] or post in Discord with the mod name and what you saw. Concrete examples are exactly what we need to fix it.
